Room of Keys: Interview on barczablog

In advance of the premiere of Room of Keys staring Adam Sherkin, I got the chance to converse with Leslie Barcza who does the tireless work of writing and championing arts & culture, with a focus on the music and opera, through his barczablog.

It’s been nice to get to do a couple of interviews for this show, which people are right to ask…so what is it? I think I’ve landed on the idea that it’s a “one act play leading into a piano recital” though perhaps that will change once the audiences start to come (April 9, 10, 11 at Toronto’s nanoSTAGE; April 16 at Toronto’s Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre).

I’m never comfortable with talking too much about a piece before it runs (to explain it) or after it runs (to justify it), but I also know it honours the hard work collaborators are putting in. In this case, director Tom Diamond and Adam, who performs the role of Greenie before playing a recital of Bartok compositions (and a new one of his own) in character…but we’ll know it’s Adam, right?

I appreciated the mix of promotional questions and fun questions that Leslie asks to get to know the show in questions but the artists who make the thing…
