Guest on the Blue Riband Podcast

Thanks to Michael Zarathus-Cook for having me his Blue Riband Podcast to talk about Year of the Horse, how I stumbled into opera, and the difference between innovation and invention when it comes to creating new work. Year of the Horse is an opera but we talked a lot about what that even means. What is opera? What isn’t it? And who decides?

Michael is one of those people who just cares about opera and new music and the people trying to take it to new places. It’s a thrill to talk about someone who is at once curious and passionate about the prospect experimenting in a form that is resistant to it, especially as we near the end of the pandemic and too many people are eager to get back to same ol’.
